On January 13th, #FiveWordsToRuinADate took over Twitter and topped the trending list worldwide. Here at Crimson, we noticed that many companies and organizations were jumping on the bandwagon to take advantage of this hashtag success for brand promotion.

There were a total of 293,000 tweets with the FiveWordsToRuinADate hashtag just on Tuesday. The volume of conversation spiked from 11 pm to midnight, with an incredible amount of over 50,000 tweets in just that hour. That is more than 800 tweets per minute! The majority of the tweets came from the United States, Ireland, and Canada. However, thousands of people from all over the world joined in, showing how amazingly fast can information travel across borders and cultures with social media. @Xbox, @StubHub, and @Android were some of the companies with the largest number of retweets. Xbox topped the list with more than 1,100 retweets just on Tuesday, followed by StubHub with 840+ and Android with 580+.

Strategic real-time marketing is significant for any business, because it helps to build the brand’s reputation and allows them to reach a broader audience of potential buyers.
