Don't Create an iPhone App for the Online Buzz Factor
AdvertisingAge
NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- For all the love that marketers show iPhone apps, these micro-utilities and tools actually generate surprisingly little buzz in return.
A study for Ad Age by PR firm Porter Novelli and its partner Crimson Hexagon looked at a handful of branded iPhone apps that came online this year and found that their launch didn't generate any big spike in the volume of online chatter about the apps. And any uptick in conversation volumes tapered off quickly in the days after the apps' rollout.

There are already hundreds if not thousands of political commentaries about it, but we wanted to know what Twitter (Twitter) users collectively thought. So, we asked Crimson Hexagon, who analyzes online sentiment, to compile data on the conversation thus far.
The results: while 31% of tweets can be summarized as congratulatory, the other 69% have negative opinions varying from “he hasn’t done anything yet” to “makes the prize itself a joke.”

Obama Health Care Speech: What Did Twitter Think?
Mashable
Last night, U.S. President Barack Obama spoke before a joint session of Congress to define and defend his health care reform initiative. There was enough controversy around the plan that Obama decided to address the issues raised in prime time.
Did the President strike a chord, though? In the past, only sophisticated polling companies could accomplish the task. Even these companies though had smaller sample sizes, were prone to inaccuracies, and would take days until the data was available.
But thanks to social media, Twitter (Twitter) and Crimson Hexagon, we can take the assessment of thousands of people and really figure out if the speech was a winner or if it was a dud.

In Online Chatter, Target Bests Walmart
ADWEEK
NEW YORK Walmart dwarfs Target in size, yet it loses out to its rival when it comes to consumer discussions online.
Target consumers are much more likely to speak about their shopping experience, according to online buzz monitor Crimson Hexagon, while chatter about Walmart often veered into discussion of the social implications of the retailing giant when it comes to labor practices and local retailers. It examined online chatter on blogs, Twitter, social networks and message boards for a one-month period beginning in mid-July.
Overall, Target enjoys mostly positive chatter. About 75 percent of conversations were positive, according to Crimson Hexagon. Walmart, on the other hand, is discussed in a negative light 61 percent of the time.
"Walmart was much more polarizing," said Melyssa Plunkett-Gomez, vp of business development at Crimson Hexagon.
